For your consideration we are offering for sale this Restored 1920s Waterman #58 Black Chased Hard Rubber Fountain Pen. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned, put back together, and is now in wonderful writing condition.
I have ultrasonically cleaned the NIB, feed, and section. I have hand cleaned the inside of the barrel and cap with mineral oil. I have cleaned, buffed, and polished the outside of the cap and barrel. Replaced the old rubber sac with a new sac. I have hand polished the Nickel Clip Cap Clip, Lever Box Assembly along with the Waterman 14K #8 NIB.
This fountain pen is made from hard rubber in a Black Chased pattern. The coloring is a deep black with the chasing being a bit light but is even/consistent from cap to barrel. The lever is crisp and clean with no wear of the Nickel material. The Waterman Ideal Clip-Cap has been polished and displays no wear. The barrel has an imprint at the center of the barrel that is very light and can be seen, "WATERMAN'S REG. US. IDEAL GLOBE LOGO PAT. OFF. FOUNTAIN PEN". The butt end of the fountain pen has the number "58" imprint. The threads on the cap and barrel are excellent with the cap always securing tightly to the barrel. There are no monograms or personalization to either the cap or barrel. There are no cracks, nicks, or repairs to the hard rubber. This Waterman #58 is a monster/large pen that measures 6" in length capped and 7 7/8" posted.
The lever and box assembly has been cleaned and oiled. I have tested the lever filling systems with water and works flawlessly as it was originally intended to.
This Waterman has #8 IDEAL ACCOUNT Nib. The iridium tipping is in excellent condition with the point measuring .48mm when measured with digital calipers - a fine point. When writing the sample in the listing images, the NIB writes with a non-flex fine line measuring roughly .47mm when measured with digital calipers. The writing sample provided was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Montblanc Blue Ink.
