Product Details
For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Gorgeous Restored 1920s Waterman #56 Red Ripple Hard Rubber Fountain Pen. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned and put back together and now is in wonderful writing condition.

Ultrasonically cleaned the NIB, feed, and section. Hand cleaned the inside of the barrel and cap with mineral oil. Cleaned, buffed, and polished the outside of the cap and barrel. Replaced the old rubber sac with a new, properly sized, silicone sac. Hand polished the 18K Gold Filled Cap Banding, Gold Filled Waterman Clip-Cap Clip, Gold Filled Lever Box Assembly along with the Waterman 14K #6 NIB.

This fountain pen is made from hard rubber in the Red Ripple pattern. The coloring is gorgeous displaying a consistent red and black coloring. The Red Ripple pattern matching perfectly (see image #5). The lever is crisp and clean with just a hint of wear. The Waterman Ideal Clip-Cap displays a touch of wear at the high point on the ball of the clip. The gold filled cap banding is starting to show a hint of wear along the very top edge of the banding - overall in very good condition. The barrel has the imprint at the center of the barrel that is light and reads, "WATERMAN'S REG US IDEAL GLOBE PAT OFF FOUNTAIN PEN". The butt end of the fountain pen has a crisp number "56" imprint. The threads on the cap and barrel are excellent with the cap always securing tightly to the barrel. There are no monograms or personalization to either the cap or barrel. There are no cracks, nicks or repairs to the hard rubber. This Waterman #56 measures 5 5/8" in length capped and 7" posted.

The lever and box assembly has been cleaned and oiled. I have tested the lever filling systems with water and works flawlessly and as it was originally intended to.

This Waterman has an unmarked #6 IDEAL Nib Made in the USA. The iridium tipping is in excellent condition with the point measuring .91mm when measured with digital calipers - a broad nib. When writing the sample in the listing images, the NIB writes with an extra fine line on the horizontal strokes measuring roughly .43mm and will flex upwards to a triple broad stroke of 1.91mm when measured with digital calipers - I didn't want to overextend the nib's capabilities but you may be able to push it further. The Nib has excellent responsiveness and overall a great pen to write with. The writing sample provided was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue Ink.

Any specks of white in the images are from the cotton that I used to clean the barrel and cap.

This antique Waterman #56 Red Ripple Fountain Pen is in ready to write condition using the incredible flexible NIB. I would consider the condition of this fountain pen to grade in excellent condition and certainly a collector grade writing instrument. This Waterman #56 Red Ripple Fountain Pen is in ready to write condition or add it to your writing arsenal collection.
