For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Very Scarce Restored 1904 Waterman #0502 Black Hard Rubber with Gold Filled Golpheresque Overlay Eyedropper Fountain Pen. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned and put back together and now is in wonderful writing condition. Such an exceptional fountain pen in terms of condition and writing - a very scarce Waterman that is uncommon to acquire.
Hand cleaned the inside of the barrel and cap with mineral oil. Cleaned, buffed, and polished the outside of the cap and barrel and Waterman 14K #2 NIB.
This fountain pen is made from black hard rubber with Gold Filled Overlay in what is known as the Golpheresque pattern. The overlay is absolutely stunning displaying wonderful craftsmanship. All Gold Filled overlay has been polished to shine brightly. The lower end of the barrel is faintly stamped, "WATERMAN". The butt end of the fountain pen does not display any model number. The cap is a slip-type and the cap is always securing tightly to the barrel. The feed is a long-tail spoon feed with patent imprint which displays lightly. There is a personalization to the cartouche area that reads, "JAN. 1. MARGARET 1904". There are no cracks or repairs to the hard rubber or Gold Filled overlay. This Waterman #0502 measures 5 3/8" in length capped and 6 1/2" posted.
This Waterman Fountain Pen is an Eyedropper Fill type. The section unscrews and one fills the barrel with ink and attached the section back to the barrel for use. It is a simple designed filling system and works as it should with ink.
This Waterman has a fantastic #2 WATERMAN IDEAL NEW YORK Semi-Flex Nib. The iridium tipping is in excellent condition with the point measuring .58mm when measured with digital calipers - a fine nib point. When writing the sample in the listing images, the NIB writes with a fine line measuring roughly .45mm with light pressure on horizontal strokes and flexes to a double broad stroke of 1.73mm with medium pressure when measured with digital calipers. The Nib is a smooth writer and such a pleasure to write with. The writing sample provided was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue Ink.
Any specks of white in the images are from the cotton that I used to clean the barrel and cap.
This is one of those Waterman Fountain Pens that are extremely difficult to find. This #0502 Waterman Golpheresque Pattern Overlay Fountain Pen is not an easy example to find clean, which this one is. I would consider the condition of this fountain pen to easily grade in Excellent condition. This is one very few people will be able to say they have in the fine writing instrument stable.
